  • Description : Saint Athanasios is depicted full length in a standing position against a gold background and in strictly frontal posture. He is blessing with his right hand while he is holding a closed gospel book with his left. He is clad in full Episcopal vestments -that is a sticharion (tunic), epimanika (cuffs), a phelonion (chasuble) and an omophorion rich in ornamentation and harmony in the colors with a sense of plasticity.
The use of complementary colors, the painterly manner of the modeling of the shading, the olive-green tones and the exceptional stylization of the Saint’s vestments, assimilates to the schematic style and tradition in the iconography of the 17th century in Macedonia and Mount Athos.
