  • Description : In Autumn 1622 the saint’s health seriously deteriorates and while conscious he was transferred to his sister residence where he finally dies. Just before he dies he asked to be buried in Strofadia.
    The composition focuses in the center part of the panel, where the saint’s bier is depicted. His dead body is depicted wearing despotic vestments. The monastic community surrounds him juxtaposed. Their dramatic personae are powerfully resembled by the way the light embraces their figure.
    The soft coloring of the figures and the background of the icon constitute a feeling of deep sorrow.
