Description : The icon is divided in two parts. The upper part (Heaven) depicts Christ ascending to Heaven inside the mandorla carried in glory by two angels. He is shown with his right hand raised in a blessing gesture, while he is holding a closed scroll on his left. The focus of the lower part (Earthly) of the icon is the Theotokos. She is surrounded by the Disciples and two angels on either side. She is depicted full length in a praying gesture, witnessing Christ ascending to Glory. St Paul and St Peter are on Her immediate side before the other Disciples. The icon is based on the Paleologian iconographic style associated with the prevailing Cretan school of the 15th century.
