  • Description : The icon depicts the three Hierarchs full length, in a standing position and frontal facing. They are presented against a bluish-green background. Christ is depicted at the top of the icon and centrally located. He is presented in a bust length engulfed by clouds, rendered with subtle tonal transition color. He is flanked by playful cherubs painted in red and against a pink background. Christ has his hands wide open extended in attitude of benediction.
Saint Vasilios inscribed: Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΣ, is depicted to the left side of the panel. He is presented with long dark hair and long beard highlighted with tonalities of lighter color.
He is clad in Epincopal vestments: an olive-green sticharion, a rose color phelonion and omophorion. He is holding a gospel book in gold color covered by his phelonion with his left hand, while he is blessing with his right. His pictorial execution is employed following the traditional post-byzantine art.
In the middle, Saint John Chrysostomos, inscribed: Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΙΩ (ΑΝΝΗΣ), is depicted slightly stepped ahead, in bright Episcopal vestments, rich in ornamentation and vivid colors. His right hand is extended in an attitude of benediction, while a gold gospel book is poised in his left arm. The iconographic type of his pictorial execution follows the traditional type.
To the right side of the icon, Saint Gregorios (the Theologian) inscribed: Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΓΡΗΓΟΡΙΟΣ/Ο ΘΕΟΛΟΓΟΣ.
He is clad in the same sumptuous Episcopal vestments, rendered with rich subtle floral motifs and symmetrical forms. He is holding a gospel book while blessing with his right.
All the saints have an engraved halo decorated in coiled reliefs’ surrounding their heads.
The balanced composition of the scene and the symmetry in the analogies of the saints postures together with the rendering of the color tonalities and flow of the draperies, specify that is a work of an iconographer that follows the prototypes of the traditional iconographic type. The thematic representations attest an affiliation of the Cretan school of art of the 18th century.
