  • Description : Against a two tier background-gold at the top and light brown from the middle part of the panel- the Evangelist Marcus is depicted bust-length, in a three dimensional representation and idealized facial type. The border of the panel is slightly hollowed out and painted in red.
His head is turned in a three quarters angle to the left. His facial characteristics exude a sense of kindness and thoughtfulness. He is depicted with short dark tidy hair tinted with white color and his beard is short and finely outlined.
The inscription: Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ / ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΟΣ] ΜΑΡΚΟΣ, (The Saint/Apostle – Markus), is inscribed in red majuscules at the top corners of the panel.
His head is encircled by a double incised halo decorated with embossed rosettes motifs and a starry motif band around the incised circumference.
He is wearing a bluish-green cloak rich in folding of alternated darker and lighter nuances of blue, and subtle gold striations.
His tunic is red with darker color tonalities and rich highlights in chrysography.
He holds a closed gospel book adorned with jewels on the cover with his both hands.
Ichnographically and stylistically the icon can attest an employment of an Athonite provincial workshop and can be dated around the 18th century.
