Virgin Mary is depicted centrally located, from the waist-up, holding the Christ Child in her left hand while her right hand is raised up to her chest presenting the Christ Child. Schematically the icon follows the traditional iconographic character of the Hodegetria type.
Virgin is clad in a dark red maphorion, highlighted with dark linear strikes, and bordered with a hem that is highlighted in ocher around the shoulders and the headdress. Her chiton is deep-green with some webbed ornamentation around the cuffs and with an orange color border hemmed around her neck. Her face shows affection and deep serenity.
Christ Child is clad in a red cloak, almost deteriorated in some parts, and a dark green tunic with nuances of a darker green hue. His face is turned towards his mother face.
He is holding a closed scroll with his right hand while his left is raised in an attitude of benediction.
Around his head is an incised halo bearing the monogrammatic inscription: Ο ΩΝ.
    Virgin‘s halo is simply incised.
Against the orange background color, and flanked to either of her shoulders, the letters in majuscules reads: ΜΡ ΘΥ.
Following the iconographic and technical style of the icon’s particular elements, hark back the employment of the icon to the first half of the eighteenth century.
