Description : The figure of Saint John (inscr. Ιωάννης]) is depicted within a richly wooden curved frame and against a gold and crimson color background. He holds his right hand before his chest while with his left he is holds his himation. He has a punched halo around his head and he is depicted almost full length. He is clad in a dark red color himation with a gold hem around his neck, and a brown chiton embroidered with a gold band at the edges. His face is presented young, with rich, densely hair. His facial characteristics express deep sorrow and emotional distress for his Master’s passions. The dark proplasmos of the face together with the sparse hues enhance his esoteric pain. The painting is surrounded by two pillars holding an apse with extended and copious coiled foliate. In the middle of the apse a cross is supported by wooden rosettes motifs. The iconographic type and stylization of the icon tends to the dating of it in the middle 17th century.
