Description : The Virgin is painted against a gold background in the standard Hodegetria type, holding the Divine Child on her right arm while with her left she presents him to the viewer and the same time beseeching him to save mankind. She is depicted from the waist up wearing a dark blue long sleeved chiton and a purple maphorion ornamented with gold border. Christ is tenderly facing Virgin while he is blessing with his right arm and holding a close scroll with his left. The heads of the two figures are surrounded be elegantly punched halos. The figurative representation follows the Byzantine types as crystallized by the Cretan workshops is beautifully portrayed on the figures. The cloak painted on Virgins head is attributed to a western influence affiliated by the iconographer.
