  • Description : The substantial figure of the Virgin dominates the composition. The Virgin is represented bust length following the type of Glykofilousa a very familiar motive. Part of the icon is damaged extensively. The Virgin is depicted half wearing a deep red maphorion. She turns slightly towards the Christ Child, whom she supports in her embrace. Christ turns his head touching it to his mother cheek showing his tender feelings. Saint John the Baptist is depicted at the left and a little bit behind. He is holding an open scripted scroll wearing a dark blue maphorion.
Iconographically and stylistically the icon follows the Byzantine tradition inspired by the aesthetic values of the Cretan School.
