- Description : Christ is depicted in bust form against a gold background. He is clad as High priest bearing the complete Episcopal robes. He is wearing a gold crown-mitre studded with precious stones signifying the liturgical significance of the icon.
He is holding an open gospel book in which on the left page, the passage: “MY KINGDOM IS NOT OF THIS WORLD… [ Η ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΑ Η ΕΜΗ ΟΥΚ ΕCΤΙΝ ΕΚ ΤΟΥ ΚΟCMOY TΟΥΤΟΥ ~ ΕΙ ΕΚ ΤΟΥ ΚΟCMOY…( John 18.36) is inscribed, and on the right page the passage: “ TAKE, EAT THIS IS MY BODY BROKEN FOR YOU FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS” [ “ΛΑΒΕΤΕ ΦΑΓΕΤΕ ΤΟΥΤΟ ΕCTI TO CΩΜΑ ΜΟΥ ΤΟ ΥΠΕΡ ΥΜΩΝ ΚΛΩΜΕΝΟΝ ΕΙC ΑΦΕCΙΝ ΑΜΑΡΤΙΩΝ..(Mathew 26.26)]. The inscription on the gold background: “Ο BACIΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΟΝΤΩΝ’’ (“THE KING OF THE KINGS”) can be read.
The modeling of the face, and the iconographic style of the icon, leads to a dating around the 17nth century.
