Collection Name : Holy Metropolis of Mesogaia and Laureotiki
Year : 10nth century A.D.
Place : Paiania
Description : Near the town Kantza, north of Paiania and close to the Attiki Odos highway, resides one of the oldest and beloved parish church of the region. The church reverts back to the 10nth century. Few references though refer to the date of the church foundation. Historical sources though refer that during the Turkish occupation that the church was used as a stable for horses. In the interior beautiful frescoes ranging from the 15nth to the 18nth century can be found, but unfortunately many of them, especially around the sanctuary were destroyed by fire.
